I talk to a Newt supporter from time to time and the guy is just hard core sold out for Newt and HATES Romney. How many of Newt's supporters are that hardcore I'm not sure, but I could possibly see this guy going for Newt third party effectively taking Obama over Romney and that just perplexes me no end. Romney has a kind of Clintonesque finger in the air mode of governing, but I don't see him flip flopping on much of anything if he's elected President because he's already flip flopped so much he doesn't have much room left. I also think he's given a LOT of thought to the positions he has come to on the issues in terms of popularity in many cases, but also in terms of business principles in a few. That's where I think the real "holy ground" is for Romney - that he is a turn around specialist and he sees the country as needing a turn around. The rest I don't think he's that passionate about. If Romney were to draft Santorum as his VP I think that would do a lot to solidify his support with the social conservative wing of the party, but I'm not sure how that would work in the general election. There's always lots of noise about Marco Rubio amongst the "tea party" types as well and that might swing some Latino vote.
