I am a mother of twin girls who are now 22 years old and both have dyslexia. One daughter from the time she was five her teachers in pre school saw a problem. Couldn't remember her colors, could not remember her ABC and the order they go in. There are all kinds of signs. And believe me I know your fustration, the schools don't want to test them till second grade. I took my daughter to Texas Childrens hospital. were they had a testing program. If you see any kind of learning difficulties it needs to be addressed. Don't wait for them to test. Just start with some simple help that you can do your self at home. it is all about repetition. flash cards with words and pictures read to her alot. little books on tape. play word games in the car. There is so much more out there now then when my girls were little. But on a happy note these kids can be succesful. My daughters are. One is a dental assistant and she still only reads on a 3rd or 4th grade level and can't spell. But she has so many other talents she has developed over the years. Her sister is finishing her assoc. degree this year it took her a extra year but she did it. She wants to teach special education and is going for her degree. Kids with dyslexia are very smart they just learn differently. What brought me to this sight is they both wanted to see what was new out there that might improve or help with there reading ,writing, spelling, and math shills.
Just instill in her a love of learning new things. Thru art, movies, games.
Sometimes it can me so fustrating but these kids are so special, so caring, so loving.
