I'm looking for help for my daughter. She is in her 2nd year of college and is buried by "Papers"! She found out she was dyslexic and has ADD in High School so she wasn't able to get much help, nor undue the damage done by her struggles in school. She thought of herself as "dumbest kid in her class" Though testing she now knows this is not true. Writing papers is bring her down. She's in Art School and is a great Artist but she's required to take Art History etc. She has done great papers and gotten A's but the anxiety remains and she still suffers for days procrastinating and getting angry about why this is necessary. She says it's not her language! She can express herself verbally and though Art! Anybody understand???

Hi Linda,
Yes I understand what she is going through. I’m 56 and have been dealing with dyslexia all of my life. Unfortunately she needs to realize as I did that we live in their world. That is the writers and the written word world. Now saying that, I can tell you there is a way around their world for us visual thinkers.

I use several different computer software that really works well in helping with my spelling and reading. Here are the names. Ginger, this program will correct your spelling and grammar. WordQ program will predict your next word that you’re going to type and give you the proper spelling as you type. Another one that I have used is Dragon Naturally Speaking. Using all of these has allowed me to function in their world easier. I hope this will help. Good luck, and don’t let her give up she can do it!

Hello Linda
is no reason why your daughter cannot succeed using the right tools to help her.
I am 54 years old and struggling with dyslexia forever. I am dictating this message to you. I'm using NaturallySpeaking Dragon version 11 professional computer software. With this version you can use a dictaphone. I normally carry the dictaphone with me on a day-to-day basis if I need to get something down by the speaking to the dictaphone. Then later on I plug it into the my laptop and it translates it into words on the screen for my. I normally get the computer to read back what is on the screen some mistakes do occur sometimes. But you can easily correct the mistakes. I have been using Dragon software for a number of years this is about the fourth version I had and this is the best version I've ever made you can more or less use it straight out of the box. The other software I use is a screen reader. You can download this free natural reader that's the name of the product you can buy the full version will read the version that's free I only use the version that is free but I find it very useful if I've got a lot of text to read I simply highlight the text and the my computer read the text to me this makes life much easier for me. All my e-mails I dictated before I send them I have the machine read them back to me you can do this through naturally Dragon speaking version 11 professional.
I wish you and your daughter all the best for the future there is no reason for not achieving their goals with the help that is available nowadays

To Gary and Malcolm,
Thank you so much for the help. I just read your answers over the phone to my daughter. (She was just arriving at school and late for the class, where the "paper" she was supposed to have written over the weekend was due!) She was encouraged to hear both of your words! (WORDS) Is'nt that funny! I will help her look in to this software and I'm sure it will help make this task for her more manageable.
Thanks very much! Linda and Leah
