Hi, I am a 55-year-old Contracting Officer at a government agency in Maryland area. I do not know if I have dyslexia, however if dyslexia is defined of having trouble of pronounce the correct word or writing the right words, well I been dealing with dyslexia my whole life and some how I have been able to be successful in my job.

I have a lot of trouble with spelling, and pronouncing words, I do not have trouble of retaining and processing information when I read, however I do have problem of pronounce a word or spelling of a word. I do lot of writing in my field, what has helped me is that I would have my writing edit at a writing services it can be expense, however I had to do what I needed to do in order to get the job done. My husband been very supportive, he has helped me a lot. However I am at the point now I want to get help, if this is my problem. I want to be a better read and be able to write without someone else editing my writing, I want to be able to read aloud in a class without having the embarrassment of pronouncing a word wrong.

Is there a treatment center in the Maryland area that been successful with Adults having Dyslexic Adults?

Thank you

Well unfortunately, there might not be treatments available for what you're trying to achieve. Because of the unusual way dyslexics process information.
I believe I understand what you're saying and that does sound like one of the traits of dyslexia. I have experienced the same thing plenty of times on my own where I can read material to myself perfectly- but when I start reading it out-loud, its like my brain gets "jumbled" and cannot process the task of spoken language and the task of reading at the same time and I start mispronouncing words- even though I can do both tasks (often) fine separately. Spelling is also a common issue for me, and its even more frustrating when I've *suddenly* cannot remember the spelling of a simple word I've spelled a million times before, that I know I know (again, it feels like sudden jumbling of my brain-processing. Like someone just abruptly took all the Scramble letters and shook it)
When the dyslexic's brain mysterious seems to get "confused" on how to handle tasks its been ordered to carry out, its unlikely there's a way around that in treatment. As well as a dyslexics seemingly not being able to do two different tasks at once such as: thinking about a writing topic and concentrating on perfect language grammar. These are just incurable and an avoidable part of life as a Dyslexic individual.
-That being said, I don't like that many dyslexics have completely given up the aspiration of there being any method for dyslexics to be gifted, sufficient readers, and have resorted to read-out-loud software instead. Famous dyslexic, Albert Einstein was told he was retarded at school, once taken out of school and home schooled by his father he learned his own methods of learning and understanding his brain was hard-wired to pick up, after that it opened the door limitless understanding for him.
When it comes to learning, memorizing, organizing- there's a way out. Our brains interpret and process information differently and see the world differently. And there are nontraditional methods our brains will quickly respond to instantly and excel with, some of the methods have been discovered and many undiscovered.
But for the most part when your brain makes sudden, awkward mistakes, your going to just have to stay forgiving. Otherwise, it would be like having a goal to never sneeze again.
psychologytoday.com can help you find a professional who can give you a professional Dyslexia evaluation, if you are interested. (search your location, then check mark "Testing and Evaluation" "Learning Disorders") the diagnostician could probably direct you to any possible workshops or centers in your area if available.

As a fellow dyslexic I fully understand your concern and I have a solution for you. I work primarily with highly motivated dyslexic high school and college students, increasing their writing skills 3-4 grade level quickly.

The following is a YouTube video link explaining a new understanding of how to take advantage of dyslexic student’s overactive brain activity to solve most of our writing problems. Please review the video and contact me for a free assessment.

It does seem that what they call "the dyslexic spectrum" includes issues with spoken words as well. Strictly that shouldn't be called dyslexia, but there are already too many categories so let's go with that.

I read like a scanner, but I've always had problems with spoken words, when I was young my parents had me tested for hearing problems. I could have told them, I didn't have any trouble hearing the words, but sometimes they just didn't make sense to me. And when I talked I kept starting the same sentence over and over trying to get it right.

The result was that I grew up with a feeling that there was something everyone else understood and I didn't, and I had to fake it because I was expected to understand it too, and if people knew I didn't they would think there was something wrong with me. I didn't know where that came from until a few years ago, when I was talking to a therapist and told her what I've just described, and she said "Are you dyslexic?"

And I opened my mouth to say no, I read just fine. Then I remembered how many other things are covered by dyslexia, and this big light went on in my head and a whole lot of things made sense for the first time.
