I am 40 years old and was diagnoised as being dyslexic a few years ago. This came to light when i attempted to sit and pass a diploma for my current proffestional job role. I had failed misserably, and since that time have tried different routes such as open assessments which is similar to exam questions but have two weeks to answer these questions. I had also failed this on 3 occastions. I have voice speaking software etc but find it hard to use as this software requires alot of training for it to recognise what i am saying and takes even longer for me to write letters/reports etc. I feel that i have to just except that i cannot succeed acedemically but as a result would leave me in a vunerable position in the future if i either get made redundant or want to move on. I am in a proffestional job but do not have the qualifications to back up my experiance. I want to know if anyone out there nows any other way that i can overcome my failures in being able to pass written exam papers to allow me to be fully recognised proffestional.

Hi, I have two masters, I was told never to go to college because I wouldn
t be able to do it. They were wrong, I gradualted with honors. I got all my books on tape and listen to them, I fought and got my test un timed. But when it came to studing and writing papers I needed help big time. I found if I could work with a friend and talk about the subject I really learned it. Sometimes I would have other friends read me the questions and explain the information to me until I understood what the assignment was asking.
then I would talk it out with them. It is si hard I know in the work place I felt I was always trying to hide my weaknesses. But I have always found one person I could trust that would help me edit my work. You can do this don't give up. You sound like you have done so much in your profession. Find someone you can trust and fight your way though it. If you can record your answers and ask someone to help you type it afterwards. One thing about
those of us with dyslexa we are creative and smart

Hello, I understand what you are going through as I have tried to fight through the academic exam process my whole life, with some failures and some successes. I can tell you the only way I managed to pass exams was with the help of an experienced tutor, someone who understands the needs of a dyslexic person, if you can afford to do so I recommend you find someone willing to coach you through your exams and show you techniques on how to pass, there is always a formula to passing exams and sometimes dyslexics just canīt see it like others do, so get some help from a tutor - they don't have to be specialists in the field, they just have to have experience of working with dyslexic adults. Good luck and never give up, you will pass, but you just need a bit more help & support!
