Terri,
I am so sorry to hear about your son being so depressed.
It sounds like he needs some out side help for his depression. It might also help him to get on this web site. There are an awful lot of us in his same
predicament. This site has helped me just because
I can read about others who are struggling and coping with dyslexia day by day. They understand me like nobody else can. I am 53 yrs. old. Dyslexia has been been my nemeses every since I can remember. What a heartache,
I won't wish it on my worst enemey. I am dyslexic, and I also feel very inadequate, stupid, and inferior to others. I will say, however, because of dyslexia or despite dyslexia, I have pushed myself more and accomplished more then most people. I have enjoyed living over seas, kayaked the Grand Canyon, taught for 31 years, have a masters degree, and I am working towards another type of career after I retire. I enjoy so many different
hobbies, biking, skiing, fly fishing, gardening, reading
caring for animals etc...
If you look through these messages, I am sure you will find
someone or a place to get help.
Good luck,
Kim

I am new here and this is my first post. I haven't posted my story yet but I wanted to reply to yours asap. You son's story sounds a lot like mine. I was diagnosed with ADD at a young age (now thought to be Dyslexia). I was on Ritalin along with a list of other medications. I had adverse reactions and they made me very violent. I had horrible bouts with my parents and put them through hell. They never stopped telling me how much they loved me. In a sea of adolescent confusion and rage I held on to the fact that I was never given up on. I now hold a high position at a very respectable company. I have a beautiful wife and house that any parent would be proud of. There are a lot of details that I am leaving for my introduction post. I guess what I am trying to say is never give up on your son. Fight this issue by his side. When the storm passes he will have self regrets but he will love you ten fold. He will also realize that after this, things that stress the average person will be a walk in the park for him. I wish you both the best.
