I have finally found what I've been seeking for years!
You, all of you. I'm lousy at bookkeeping. So you won't find me in the bookstores perusing books about bookkeeping. It's not my talent and I abhor it.
Now my daughter, who is 25 and has dyslexia, doesn't have a book in her house, except two now that I gave them to her. She does not peruse libraries or book stores because she abhors reading, like most dyslexics. She only reads what she needs to to survive. Which is why I am making a post.
The two books she now has that she loves and reads everyday (I know because she calls me from Texas and lets me know) is, "The Gift of Dyslexia" by Ron Davis and the book I spent 12 years writing just for her and those like her, "Gabbys Wordspeller Phonetic Dictionary". No one wanted to publish this book for me because it was dry, unsensational and wouldn't reap millions in a years time. So be it. I published it myself. Now it's in 400 school districts and public libraries. But guess what? It's not selling in books stores. You know why?
Do people who are gifted with dyslexia go peruse through book stores and libraries for the thrill of it? NO. That's why a publisher didn't want us. But it's for you guys.
As well, my daughter spoke that she 'finally found her kind' when she attended a workshop in Dallas that I found online sitting here in Washington at dyslexia.com. I met these people, visited the workshops, read the books, met children and adults who say absolutely that this program changed their lives. The children have twinkles in their eyes after their first session when they discover that there are 'trigger' words or letters or (for some the inability to do multiple choice tests) sentence structures that create a sense of 'disorientation' for them.
This program (for all ages) as well as the book, illustrates how and when this disorientation occurs and how to catch it and reel yourself back in. So a person can get a sense as to when they are slipping into a 3-D perspective, apply a method they learn, then quickly snap back into a 2-D linear process. A 2-D mind is required to read and write text. Dyslexics are 3-D thinkers...that's the trick!
This dyslexia.com is designed, managed and facilitated by people who either had dyslexia and learned to correct it or are people who have dyslexic children who learned to correct it through this association.
They're home grown by dyslexics, for dyslexics, just the way it should be! They love my book and I love their program!
