As a 46 year old I returned to college to brave it out and found a school that had no tests. But I decided to become a therapist and knew that there would be a 2 difficult licensing exams. I was willing to accept that I may just have to be happy receiving an MA even if I never passed the tests and getting an MA was such a major accomplishment. But I knew that I had to at least try to pass the exam, since my goal was to run my own business and have autonomy. I came up with many techniques to study including using clay figures and scenarios (taken from the Davis method) I used every memory trick, mnemonics, songs, and repetition. I also went to hypnotherapy and did EMDR trauma therapy to help with the massive anxiety of testing since I had such a bad track record. I finally passed! So, my advice is that the more that you can recognize your specific strengths and weaknesses, the better you can address the problem.
