I'm 34yr old and am in my second semester of college, going for funeral services, and am thinking about seeing someone to see if I might have dyslexia. I've never really had problems with letters or numbers but when it comes to understanding things I'm reading i do have problems. I can sometimes read something 3 or 4 times over and still not "get it". I'll listen in class and understand what the instructure is saying and be like "I get it" then when I get home and read the same thing I don't and have trouble remembering what was said in class. The other day we had a quiz on something I know and if the instructure had said just write it out I would've done great, but it was fill in the blank and when I looked at the paper it was like I had no clue what I was suppose to put. After getting really fustrated I just put stuff in the blanks I taught it would be, I didn't pass. I've always had problems like that. I also have trouble getting my thoughts to come out right. It's like they sound great in my head then when I write them or say them it makes no sense. I started looking up dyslexia and from what i've read it might have something to do with my problems. Does anyone on here know if it could be and if I should see about getting tested? I just want to find out what I can do to do better in school and maybe not feel stupid sometimes.

It sounds like you have it. Frequently I have trouble getting my thoughts down on paper. And, sometimes I have a terrible time expressing orally my thoughts. I have noticed that if I think what I want to say before I say it, my thoughts are clearer.
I would like to make a few suggestions when you have to study for a test. After you read something, ask yourself who, what when, where, how etc. Write important facts on index cards and place them all over your home like on your closet door, kitchen cabinets, on your pillow etc. Constantly ask yourself what I just read. Use a tape recorder in class.
Practice what you want to say.
