I am a 40 year old mom of an 8 year old boy. He is in 3rd grade and is a vibrant, high energy kid. When he was 2 years old, he was diagnosed with a brain tumor. He has, by the grace of God, survived and recovered. The doctors did however, tell us that there may be a chance he has a learning disability. I have a growing concern that he may be dyslexic as he struggles with reading and still mixes up his letters and numbers. Math is difficult for him also. He tells me that the words/letters jump around on the page. He is easily distracted, but is able to concentrate and focus for extended periods. I was told by his teacher that there are steps that the school system requires one to take and exhaust those options before testing for dyslexia is done. This is because the testing is expensive. Is this true? If anyone has any insite or advice on how to navigate through the process of testing I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!
