I think James' concerns re the womens grade and upcoming women players are well expressed. However, he seems to have overlooked the amount of effort some of the top women have put back into developing other women.

As in all polo, there are players who are willing to commit to training and financial sacrifice to improve their game. Sometimes even to the detriment of other areas in their life. There are also others who are not.

I don't know what has sparked this debate, it almost appears there has been a suggestion of a blanket ban on women in mens national league teams. I hope this is not correct.

One small achievement for myself was playing for the Vikings A team at last years Art Deco comp.(yes, a mens team)
(The real deal was that they would have had to play with four if I didn't get on the water) But, I played! I admit the games I played (2) were above my level of ability, BUT THE TEAM DID NOT LOSE BECAUSE THEY HAD A FEMALE ON THE WATER.

In the instance of Kiwi I certainly had put reasonable effort into the club AND the other women (A 1st placing in the Snr womens grade at club nats. is not too bad a result)
Unfortunately my coaching style, personal views and general communication ability, was, at the time, not of a high enough level to continue the momentum, and eventually the Valkyries team faded into the background despite my efforts.

My point is: why should any player be blocked from being considered for selection in any team, bc of lesser numbers and commitment levels of a particular group of polo players in this country?

The question of National League being introduced this year, despite how successful last year was is an issue. Administrators were willing to give something new a try, why not in this case?
