Akira halted, and Keso did so as well, snarling. The alpha's ears pressed back. So they were going to protect her after all. A growl emitted from his throat. This would not be easy, but it could be done. The patient wolf gave a cold, knowing smile, showing a glint of pearly white daggers within his maw. He relaxed and stood, watching.

Keso blinked. He was unsure what his father was planning.
Akira set himself at a good distance from the herd and sat down, watching and waiting. He knew his prey. The wolves would simply have to wait them out. They would keep the doe in check, making her unable to leave the waters without being killed. Instincts would come into play, and eventually the herd will leave her to get food. Their instincts will eventually demand their own survival over that of an injured, sickly doe.

And then the wolves would forbid her to leave to feed. Should she try to leave the water to graze, they will attak, and press her back. She will either starve or become to weak to ward off an attack.

It could be done. Akira had done it once, before Keso's time. All they had to do was wait. It would be long and nervous work. But all in all, the wolf is lord. And the wolf, though it may not always achieve the capture of prey, it is still lord over the forests, and its subjects must bow to its teeth. So Akira the patient sat silently, watching and grinning at the herd. He remained poised, however, to make a warning attack should the doe attempt to escape.
