In reply to: Bala, the DM do0D 's message, "Tentative list of Noble Houses of Duath" on 09:15:47 05/21/03 Wed

I plan on making a relatively 'normal' member of a noble family, so I'd be pretty much fine with any 'good' noble house.

The Osred house sounds like a fun noble house to play in. I imagine them as a little snobby, greedy and elitist. A house like this makes me think they might reach for some less honorable methods for their (financial) gain. I see them using the other houses for their 'dirty' work such as spying, sabotaging or possibly (though not likely, unless there's some inter-house mutiny going on, maffia style :p ) assassinating. Bribing would be considered just another way to obtain a goal.
Makes it sound kinda like a semi-evil house, though I really just see it as the pinnacle of capitalism :)
Since they'd generally have their hands in any businesses in the city, this will draw them into pretty much every conflict since they will need to protect their property.
I think that this house's 'military' or guards would rival that of the Jarval's, considering these guys have the most money to pay hirelings.
Ofcourse, all of the above would be done secretly and none of it would be visible on the surface. To the onlooker, an Osred familymember would be hard to tell apart from a member from another house. Except maybe that the Osreds dress better.
Carni's suggestion of a fat guy in charge sounds like a good idea to me. Fat and snobby.

I think either the Jarval or the Vedis house should also be actively played in the campaign to keep some relatively 'normal' people and to keep the campaign from going wrong.
I see the Vedis as the 'middle ground' noble house. They are the social ones with good hearts. I see the Jarval as similar, except these are a little less social and more like an order (a good example would be the Paladins of Trinsic, IMO).

And as a third choice I'd like the Fabrine around. Either as a PC played house, or an NPC house.
I like to think of these guys as a 'fallen' house. Every house eventually does some things that are dishonorable, except these guys do it a little more than the rest and got caught doing it, and then they got outlawed. Besides being slightly less honorable than the rest, I don't see these people as criminals or thugs at all. Nor do I think of them as shady or creepy. Just more like a underground, maybe more powerful than noticable at first, house. Perhaps they are more of a 'people's house' than a 'noble's house', since they have been pretty much expelled from 'nobility'. They could have interests in the 'lower' forms of business, such as smuggling and information gathering (spies), but also own normal property like a fishing company or a tavern and brothels in the poor city district.

In other words, I'd like my character to be an Osred member. As a second choice I take Vedis.
