One of the biggest problems in operating a web message board is the risk that someone will excessively post messages and/or attack other members. Fortunately, Rob and Scott anticipated this problem, by requiring everyone to utilize a password in order to post messages. While I cannot speak for either Rob or Scott, I believe this approach has worked well, as I have not seen "excessive" posts from any one person nor individuals with poor "posting etiquette" leaving messages in quite some time.

While I am a firm believer in free speech, I also support reasonable restrictions on speech-- most notably the password requirement. Like most of you, I endeavor to be very careful whenever I post a message to this and other webpages. I always try to stay on topic, keep my messages brief, and respect the feelings and opinions of others. Fortunately, virtually everyone else who contributes to this message board also shares this goal, which is a big reason why this webpage has thrived for so long.

I have met many prominent people through this webpage. Most of us are quite busy with other endeavors (work, family, etc.)and do not have the time to read excessive posts and/or respond to such posts. While I thoroughly enjoy talking about pop music and "American Top 40," as well as trading shows, I have never allowed this "hobby" to become an obsession. Accordingly, on the rare occasion that someone enters our fray and starts "fights" (loud debates) on minute issues, such as the ones discussed by John, I find the best approach is simply to ignore them. Then, if the person persists in these tactics, Rob and Scott have the sole discretion to revoke their password. While the latter may not be the complete solution, it is one of the biggest tools we have (aside from ignoring the rude person) to ensure that this webpage continues to serve the needs of the rest of us who know how to follow "the rules."
