How was "Class M Planet" passed as okay?

I was thinking that since the Andromeda Universe has Ayn Rand and Neitzche and "Cola" (well, Sparky Cola anyway), maybe they also had Star Trek. Some of the pop cultural references from the TV show could have crept into everyday language, even centuries later (like with Shakespeare - people still use words and phrases from his plays even if they haven't read the plays themselves).
