I was a teenager during my time in UBF, and my parents both participated to a lesser degree.(and yes, we were at Triton, and the couple you may be referring to above were my mother's Bible Teachers)

When I first began having doubts, I went to my mother and started telling her about the things my Bible Teacher(s) had been teaching me. She was absolutely aghast - her Bible Studies had been all sweetness and happiness and light. They loved having my Mom and Dad at Sunday Service, because they lent an air of legitimacy to everything. But the standard UBF doctrine that I was being fed? They knew almost none of it.

It burns me up, now, to think of the way they used my parents. On the other hand, my relationship with Mom and Dad stayed strong, which ultimately gave me (and them) the courage to leave.
