You all say that there are 3 or 4 potential starters out of these freshmen, but are you looking at the talent surrounding them. No matter who UTA brought in this year they would be potential starters. They have no seniors. One returning starter if you take out Thomas who did not start in conference. So, if you brought these freshmen here in 2000 would you all have started anyone of them besides Jermaine on that team. I don't think Miles is more athletic than Beacham was his freshmen year nor can he shoot better than Derrick could, or rebound and play defense like Beacham could on his bad knee. Beacham adn Obasohan were taller and more skilled when it came to playing the game. They were probably the too tallest legit guards UTA has ever had. Guidry or Epps nor Sauls will ever grow to 6'5" or 6'6" and become match-up problems to teams like Derrick and Donnie were. Obasohan and Beacham Started on that 2000 team featuring Jabari Johnson, Mac, Steve Barber and Jason Arbuckle. Beacham Started 21 of the 22 games he played in and Derrick started all but 2 of the conference games. Johnson Started the first 5 or 6 games of that season as a freshmen, and Derrick got freshmen of the year with Beacham easily being the runner up. Beacham was ranked in the top 10-15 in the conference in rebounding his freshmen year, and also was ranked in the top of the conference in steals per game. So until we can get those types of numbers from these freshmen I don't feel they are the better class. Just a better circumstance for them.
