Perhaps another (more realistic) version of the addiction metaphor will come into play with Willow: that of the drug/magic controlling the user. Drug addiction can drive a person to many things that they would never do in their non-addicted state. There is plenty of evidence that drugs can alter brain chemistry, meaning that the addict now needs the drug to even feel normal. In some sense, they aren't really the same people they were before the drug, because a new motivation/need has usurped their original personality.

Another descent into dark magic might ensnare Willow in the same way, with the sources of those magics now owning her rather than the other way around. She may turn to magic to both express her rage and to perhaps soothe her pain; as with drug addiction, it could change her for good (well, for evil, actually).

That said, not liking this one bit!
