Subject: Third party candidates?

I was listening to Michael Medved on the radio interviewing the Green Party candidate for President (It is not Nader this time - it is a man named Cobb from TX) and Medved was unrelenting (and actually pretty rude to the candidate in my opinion) in his criticism of third party candidates for major offices as silly, etc. since they have no hope of winning (in the case of the Greens, their most prominent elected officials are a state legislator from Maine and the president of the Board of Supervisors of San Francisco).

I do not share his opinion but was wondering what others felt about third party candidates in general (or specific ones, if you wish).
