"we can afford more taxes."

I can't. Sorry, I'm tired of living paycheck to paycheck.

Sounds like poor financial planning, not the economy.

"the Misery Index"

Bush's Misery Index is higher than Clinton's for sure, but, we live in a different world than the 90's. And, unemployment rates are not that much higher than during the Clinton Admin.

Unemployment isn't the issue. Unemployment should be about where it is for a healthy economy. Supply side economics is inefficent for resource allocation and production choices. That is my argument.

Questions:
Did you believe that we should pay more taxes?
Our taxation rates are more than fair. I have no problem paying more or paying less. I am indifferent to that issue.

Did you receive the child-tax benefit last year? (~$300 per kid)

Yes, and had to count it as income this year.

Do you get a tax refund?
I usually break even.

If you answered yes to the first question, why did you accept the benefit and refund? Doesnt' work.

Because tax avoidance makes sense, and tax evasion is illegal. I do try to minimize my taxes owed, but the "refund" offered early in the year was more of a smokescreen - sort of an advance, not a real refund. I still would like to see the wealthy taxed more and the poor taxed less.

Actually, the government needs to be audited! Waste needs to go out the window (i.e. - Space Program, how does the possibility of life on Mars affect my life? NOt at all! Use the money to pay our teachers.)

The money will not go to pay teachers. Ever (well, until this turns into a socialist nation, perhaps). This is a capitalist market, so the ones who make the most money are the ones who bring in the most money. Few people choose a school because of a teacher - but people will pay money to see a star sport player play his or her game - so the sport player makes more money. The same works with CEOs and the space program. A healthy, successful space program actually helps to boost the economy in a strange sort of way.
