I don't really disagree. You are just talking around the point like you usually do. The point I was trying to make is that we all tend to wear uniforms, and these uniforms can and many times are, signs of something lacking within us. A man wears a badge, perhaps, because he lacks courage enough to face the world or himself without it. A man wears long hair, perhaps, because he sees himself as outside the societal norm, so sets himself apart from them symbolically. (My hair is short now primarily because in Columbus having long hair is a death sentence in the job market, though I will say I always just enjoyed having long hair and it was really no statement as such...) A man afraid of his own sexuality, perhaps, seeks out the safety of the priesthood where he is taught that it is okay to be afraid of sexuality. A man who lacks freedom or a strong sense of manhood buys a harley and puts on leather or buys a gun and goes hunting because these are supposedly manly hobbies.

I am just throwing out suggestions here. Nothing is written in stone. And yes, they are generalities, but I will maintain that all sorts of philosophical discourse must begin with a certain amount of generality-speak. Exceptions and arguments may then follow. Making generalizations is not a crime.

And, I don't really know why you are reminding me that you are older than me. You could be 120 years old and still be a great fool. And I am not calling you a great fool.

We either see the world as it is or the world as we believe it to be. You like to believe that cops are good and simple carriers of justice, perhaps. I see them as this also, yet many of them are not simple carriers of justice. Many of them hide behind a badge in order to suppress their own guilty thoughts or to suppress the fear of their own potential to do evil. Some hind behind a badge because it gives them a further excuse to bully. I had a childhood friend who drank, smoked pot and did some pretty crazy things. He was also a rather irritating bully. What is he now? A cop. I do not name names for a simple reason, there is no real need.

I am certain that there are good cops and that many get into the field with good intentions. I have also heard from these same cops that these sorts of men get out of the business quickly. It is related to the bad manager syndrome. Men who become managers are generally not very good at managing because the people who are good at managing are too good for the occupation!

Anyway...
