1. Nirvana, "Smells Like Teen Spirit"

I have tried to listen to this song, but, frankly, I can't understand the lyrics. I liked Wierd Al's mockery much better.

2. Michael Jackson, "Billie Jean"

Okay song, but I liked "Thriller" better.

3. Guns N' Roses, "Sweet Child O' Mine"

I can't abide this song.

4. Eminem, "Lose Yourself"

I haven't heard this one, but don't see how someone this recent can have had much of a long-term impact on the music industry. From what I have seen, he seems little more than a rude white guy pretending to be a black rapper.

5. U2, "One"

Not familiar with this "one".

6. Run-D.M.C., "Walk This Way"

I thought Aerosmith did this song.

7. Prince, "When Doves Cry"

Don't care much for Prince's voice.

8. Whitney Houston, "I Will Always Love You"

Good singer, but I am not familiar with this song. I must work on my lack of musical exposure. I hardly know any of the top 8 songs.

9. The Police, "Every Breath You Take"

Decent song. I can think of a lot of songs I like better than this one, though.

10. Madonna, "Like a Virgin"

Watching her writhe around on the floor in a wedding dress was fun, and I like the song, but I doubt it was all that influental to be placed here.

11. Van Halen, "Jump"

Good song. "Can't Drive 55" by Sammy Hagar is better.

12. Alanis Morissette, "You Oughta Know"

Not familiar with this song.

13. TLC, "Waterfalls"

Not familiar with this song.

14. Sinead O'Connor, "Nothing Compares 2 U"

Good song. Didn't realize it was this good.

15. Pink Floyd, "Another Brick in the Wall (Part 2)"

Ugh. I thought only Indiana loved Pink Floyd more than they deserve. Guess not. 'Tis an okay song, but not one of my favorites.

16. No Doubt, "Don't Speak"

Never heard of the group, nor the song.

17. Def Leppard, "Photograph"

Aha! Now we are talkin'! Good music from a good album. One of the definitive hair band albums.

18. R.E.M., "Losing My Religion"

I love this song! It is about time some good songs made this damn list.

19. Public Enemy, "Fight the Power"

Never heard of this song.

20. AC/DC, "You Shook Me All Night Long"

Another good one! Also from a good, strong album.

21. U2, "With or Without You"

Ugh. Without. Please.

22. Cyndi Lauper, "Time After Time"

She sang something other than "Girls just wanna have fun"?

23. Prince, "Little Red Corvette"

Can't stand his voice. How did he get two songs on here? Mark, you must explain this to me.

24. Celine Dion, "My Heart Will Go On"

Must I comment on this one?

25. Rick James, "Super Freak"

I sorta remember this song. Was it THAT impressive that it made top 25?

26. Bon Jovi, "Livin' on a Prayer"

Good song from another hair band. Decent album all away around, though.

27. Grandmaster Flash, "The Message"

Not familiar with the group or the song.

28. Britney Spears, "... Baby One More Time"

Bubble gum. Not a bad song though, but I doubt it was that influential nor does it deserve a place on this list.

29. Bruce Springsteen, "Born in the U.S.A."

I like this song.

30. Janet Jackson, "Nasty"

I like her "black cat" better.

31. Dr. Dre feat. Snoop Doggy Dogg, "Nuthin' but a `G' Thang"

Not familiar with the song. Is rap really that influential? I could see the first rap song being on the list, but since every other rap song is basically a re-write of that one...

32. Pearl Jam, "Jeremy"

Never cared much for Pearl Jam; not familiar with this particular song.

33. Tina Turner, "What's Love Got to do With It"

Hmmmm.

34. Peter Gabriel, "In Your Eyes"

Not familiar with this song, but generally I like his music. I loved his soundtrack for "The Last Temptation of Christ".

35. The Sugarhill Gang, "Rapper's Delight"

Not familiar with the song. Is rap really that influential? I could see the first rap song being on the list, but since every other rap song is basically a re-write of that one...

36. Joan Jett, "I Love Rock 'n Roll"

Good, good song.

37. Alicia Keys, "Fallin"'

Not familiar with the artist or the song.

38. The Clash, "London Calling"

Not familiar with the song.

39. Tom Petty, "Free Fallin"'

I hate this song. It annoys me.

40. Michael Jackson, "Beat It"

I think "Thriller" is a better song.

Note: Skipping a whole host of songs I have never heard. Or if I have heard them, they weren't memorable.

59. Meat Loaf "Paradise By the Dashboard Light"

I enjoy this song. Good album.

60. Santana feat. Rob Thomas, "Smooth"

61. Backstreet Boys, "I Want It That Way"

Ugh. boy bands. Must we put up with them? Hey! Let's put New Kids on the Block on this list too!

62. Pretenders, "Brass in Pocket"

63. Beck, "Loser"

64. The Knack, "My Sharona"

Fun song.

65. Nelly, "Hot in Herre"

66. Squeeze, "Tempted"

67. John Cougar Mellencamp, "Jack and Diane"

Alright song. I think he has better ones.

68. Chic, "Good Times"

69. Mary J. Blige, "Real Love"

70. Culture Club, "Do You Really Want to Hurt Me"

What? What about "Karma Kamelion"

71. Dave Matthews Band, "Crash Into Me"

72. John Lennon, "(Just Like) Starting Over"

73. LL Cool J, "Mama Said Knock You Out"

Not familiar with the song. Is rap really that influential? I could see the first rap song being on the list, but since every other rap song is basically a re-write of that one...

74. Hall & Oates, "I Can't Go for That (No Can Do)"

75. The Ramones, "I Wanna Be Sedated"

76. Eurythmics, "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)"

I like this song. I hate to admit it, but I like Marilyn Manson's remake better.

77. Missy Elliott, "Work It"

78. Green Day, "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)"

79. Destiny's Child, "Say My Name"

80. Duran Duran, "Hungry Like the Wolf"

81. OutKast, "Ms. Jackson"

82. Soft Cell, "Tainted Love"

83. Band Aid, "Do They Know It's Christmas"

84. Radiohead, "Creep"

85. Eminem, "My Name Is"

Not familiar with the song. Is rap really that influential? I could see the first rap song being on the list, but since every other rap song is basically a re-write of that one...

86. Tracy Chapman, "Fast Car"

87. The Who, "Who Are You"

88. Metallica, "Enter Sandman"

This song used to annoy me, but I have grown to rather love the song.

89. Pat Benatar, "Hit Me With Your Best Shot"

Good song.

90. The Police, "Roxanne"

91. Melissa Etheridge, "Come to My Window"

92. Salt-N-Pepa, "Push It"

93. Nine Inch Nails, "Closer"

94. Cheap Trick, "Surrender"

95. Oasis, "Wonderwall"

96. Beastie Boys, "(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (to Party!)"

Not familiar with the song. Is rap really that influential? I could see the first rap song being on the list, but since every other rap song is basically a re-write of that one...

97. Devo, "Whip It"

98. Hanson, "MMMBop"

Hanson? Should I be afraid that New Kids on the Block might actually make the list? Hanson? Hanson?

99. Norah Jones, "Don't Know Why"

100. Madonna, "Ray of Light"

I can think of a lot of Madonna songs I like better than this one.

Over all, I didn't recognize a quarter of these songs. I also think they missed a lot of influential and important songs, songs that still get continual air-play.
