Now, with that in mind, what did the Jesus seminar not take into consideration? 1) The role of eye witnesses. Why would these "disciples" have died the horrible deaths they died if they knew it to not be true? Sure, people die for their faith everyday, but they die for it thinking it's true.

One must also look into the credibility of eye witnesses. A lot of people (and potentially early Christians too) claim to be eye witnesses for no other reason than some sort of notoriaty. It is hard to decide the credibility of many early Christians, so they must be discounted. A lot of people in early ages "witnessed" resurrections, demon possessions, faith healings, etc. all around the world - but that doesn't make it true. If you accept all early Christian "eye-witnesses" at face value, so to must you accept the word of those who witnessed Mitra, Buddha, and a thousand other "saviors" and "messiahs."

A lot of people of all sorts of religions die for their faith, but it would be absurd to accept all those religions as the ultimate truth based on the willingness of adherents to die for their version of the truth.
