Subject: We Love Our Little Miss

I have just about read an hour of messages, mostly positive, a few negative about OLM. So, I just wanted to add my personal experience and thoughts.

I too am an "old-timer" with OLM. My granddaughter is a second-generation OLM contestant. We absolutely love being with the parents, children and staff that are involved. My daughter started competing in 1983 and now my granddaughter has competed. My daughter and I traveled to World 10 times and not once did she win the "Red Poof". Even though she gave it her best shot, it just never came her way. We always had such a wonderful time, it was like taking a vacation every year and getting to see new things and meet new people. How lucky we were. My daughter and my friends that were made throughout the years are our best friends today. When people ask me "what did you get out of competing in pageants all those years"? I always state "the friends". My granddaughter finally was lucky enough to win the “Red Poof”. But you know what, it didn’t change our life….we still had the good and the not so good things happen in our lives, as life goes.

People will pick pageants for different reasons. Some people will hate pageants all together. Some will like one system over the other. Not every pageant system is meant for every person. We all have the right to our opinions. As life goes….there is not one thing in this big wide world that EVERY person can say they like. Even Jesus was judged wrongly. My hope is that unless you truly feel there is a scam of some sort; please don’t bash a person, especially a child, or a system. Your choice is to just not go back. Bashing ANY pageant system hurts us all. We all know we have to listen to enough negative talk when it comes to the subject of children competing in pageants. For those of us that enjoy pageantry, let’s not make it difficult on each other.

As adults, we do make some decisions for our children, such as what they are going to wear and what we will allow them to participate in, etc. Ultimately it is our responsibility to raise our children to be the best adults they can be. With that we need to teach them good sportsmanship, how to be polite, except responsibility, etc We are so fortunate to be able to have our loved ones be able to “walk” a runway, to perform and to be with us. Those of you that know me know this comes from my heart. My son has Cerebral Palsy, and was and is denied the ability to do some awesome sports, which he wishes he could do.

Have a GREAT DAY!
