Subject: Yankees...Padres

After Game 1, I felt the need to apologize on behalf of the Padres for Sterling Hitchcock and Jay Witasick. Not just for the playoffs, but since they were traded to NY. What the hell happened to Witasick?? He had a 1.86 ERA with San Diego (37 innings) and a 4.69 ERA with New York (40 innings). I hardly got a chance to see him after the trade, so I'm curious as to what happened. With Hitchcock, the Yanks didn't really give up anything of consequence, although I do have some hope for Brett Jodie. And the Yanks didn't really NEED D'Angelo Jiminez, with middle infielders like Jeter, Soriano, Almonte. But he's pretty damn good, and looks to be a big part of the Padres future. And if I may make a prediction, Witasick and Hitch will both leave the Yankees after the season... my guess is Witasick will be in a Padres uniform next season.

Padres GM Kevin Towers has a new nickname... Robin Hood. I hear the Rangers are interested in him and Dave Dombrowski of the Marlins for their GM vacancy. I'm saying a prayer tonight that he doesn't leave.

Here's another Towers gem: Remember this name, Dennis Tankersley (is he related to you Kathy? lol). Last year the Padres traded Ed Sprague to the Red Sox for two minor leaguers...SS Cesar Saba, and some pitcher that Sox GM Dan Duquette had never heard of, Dennis Tankersley. All "Tank" did this year was put up a 1.98 ERA, with 173 K's in 136 innings. Duquette is an absolute idiot. On top of that, they released Ed Sprague a month later and the Padres picked him up off waivers.
