Actually, I had read the part about Pohlad practicaly begging out of the league, and they had mentioned the 250 mill he might recieve when the franchise is worth about 99 million. As for the stadium lease and deeper debt that TB is in, Minnesota is starting to turn it around, the 70% increase in attendance, the solid team, the decent to good rotation ( depending on what day it is), can you look at TB, now or 5 years down the road and see where they will be anywhere near the same place? It may cost a little more to deal them out right now, but if you remove a team thats starting to show loot in favor of one thats a black hole, in 5 years this same issue will be up again. They simply need to find a new owner for the club, younger, deeper pockets, and preferrably not another direct descendant of the Grinch. I saw an interesting little tidbit yesterday that stated if the league had taken the contraction stance 10 years ago, Seattle and Cleveland would no longer be in baseball, so I just can't get behind the Twin killing. Here's another simple way out, simple being relative. Kill Montreal and Anaheim, who's ownership also wants out, give the Anaheim slot to Loria rather than the Florida one he is wanting, force Pohlad out and find a new owner ( Tom Clancy was heartbeat away from being the Vikings owner a few years back, Red McCombs could probably also swing a deal). This makes the most economical sense for Selig, instead of 2 250 million dollar buyouts, he convinces Loria to fold for free, buys the Disney club and hands it to Loria, BAM, a quarter of a billion saved.
