Wow. I dunno what to think about Hart now, except that he may be the biggest egomaniac this side of Jerry Krause that the sports world has ever seen. He seems to be trying so hard to put his fingerprints all over the Rangers that he has lost sight of the little things like leadership, loyalty and team chemistry. I was personally upset that Sele left Texas a few years back, until mid pointed out to me that Texas actually offered him more loot, he just chose to leave, but they practically ran Helling outta town on a rail. The guy has an "off" year this past season, after 3 solid years, and Hart decides he's done? First of all, if you look at Hellings record after his first 8-10 decisions compared to where he finished, you'd see the guy put it together after a rough start, for the most part, so this move cannot be justified in any sense. Secondly, maybe Helling is only a #2, but ummmm, even though he is the class of this seasons FA pitchers, is Park really any more than a #2 either? The guy performed well the past couple of years when he had Kevin Brown to use as his shield from expectations, but now that he's the man, expected to deliver not only 15-20 wins, but also help guide the Rangers young staff, can he BE Kevin Brown?

The way I see it, John Hart has either set himself up to become baseball's newest genius, or he will be looking for work, or at least should be, in 2003. The moves he has made all have amazing potential, but the potential very well may all be bad. This line of actions only leads me to believe that not only will Kapler probably be dealt soon, but that Pudge is almost assuredly consulting moving companies as well. Just as scary, Hart is the same guy who let go of a slew of Clevelands young talent in his "win now" strategy, only to have won nothing. How long will guys like Mench, Blalock, Texiera, or Pena be in the Rangers system before Hart decides the future can wait, we need another 6 game winner for the stretch? Sad.

Just as a thought, the BoSox signing of Damon means Pokey Reese is out in the cold. As long as Hart is building the team on longshots and outcasts, Reese might be the one with the most upside out there, and can probably be had for less than people think.
