two positive ways to look at your plateau .
1/ if you are continuing to exercise & watching what you eat then by staying the same weight you will probably be gaining lean body mass (muscle)and losing body fat so by staying the same weight you are actually still getting healthier . also by exercising you are keeping your metabolic rate higher than it would normally be so your body will burn the food you are eating faster , so its just a matter of time before you come off the plateau .
2/ if you are on a plateau then it means that you are not gaining weight so surely that is a big enough reason to be happy and to continue doing what you are doing .
stay motivated and soon enough you'll come off the plateau eventually , even if you only lose 1 pond every 5 weeks (that doesn't sound a lot does it ) but that still relates to 10 pound a year or 50 pound in 5 years which sounds more impressive doesn't it . so don't lose motivation , and don't set unrealistic targets ie lose 50 pounds in 5 weeks and lose motivation . take every day , a day at a time and treat a weight loss of 1/2 pound as a bonus and no weight loss/gain as good . and should you gain a pound then just concentrate a bit more but don't be disheartened just keep up the good work . (ps these are just my views , i am not a professional/doctor so don't take this as gospel) good luck , peter

Peter is right on both points, could be muscle gain but at any rate it is not a gain so there is no reason to panic. Just keep at it and eventually your body will catch up. I know it's hard when you don't see any progress but think of other aspects of your health besides weight that are improving because of all your efforts. Just the self confidence boost that comes from taking care of yourself is worth the work! Keep at it you are doing a great job!!!!!

Thanks for the words of encouragement from both Stacy and Peter. I know I just need to keep at it, and I will. No gain is definitely better than any gain, I'll let you know when it finally starts dropping off again. Wish I could have a couple more weeks just like my first week, which was a 4 lb loss. At any rate, at least I'm doing something. Good Luck All!
