Well i might as well keep pumping out the chapters while i am on a roll ;)

And if anyone has any odeas for a title for this thing it would be great!

Well here it is.

Chapter Six:

Feiln watched the light of the fire dreamily as it flickered over the ancient walls of the broken fortress. He wondered at all the tales it could tell, all the stories locked within the stone and mortar. It was a sweet night, the clouds from earlier that day had gone and the stars shone bright. He savored the fresh smell of the forest all around. That reminded him of home, of Helmshor. He smiled as him head began to nod.

There was a crack of a footstep from outside the ring of light. Feilns eyes flicked open, but he did not move. His hand slid sortly to his bow. ‘Hey,’ he whispered. He realized that he didn’t even know the knight’s name. ‘Hey, mister. There’s something out there.’ He said quieter still. The fire light danced, and Feiln could make out shadows in the darkness.

The Knight: Jarred, remained still. He had hardly slept. So tonight was the night, he thought, what good fortune it is that I have company. He lay still. ‘Be quiet man,’ Jarred whispered back, hoping that the watchers didn’t hear. ‘prepare your bow, quietly.’ Jarred wrapped his fingers around his blade and waited. ‘On my signal.’
Felin had his bow by his side, and an arrow in his lap. The young man prayed the no one had seen him. Suddenly one of the shadows stepped into the light. Jarred signaled.

Jarred jumped up and rolled behind a fallen wall so he was looking Feiln in the eye. In the flash of an eye feiln had his bow drawn and the string taught. He looked down the shaft, the creature looked stunned, he must have thought the pair to be asleep. It wore a long dark cloak, and carried a long curved dagger. Feiln was glad that his opponent’s face was hidden in shadow. He released the arrow, it flew true and struck the figure in the heart, he fell back unmoving. Then without warning three more dark figures rushed out of the forest surrounding the ruins. Two that were closer to Jarred rushed to the knight, Feiln felled one with an arrow to the heart. He grabbed another arrow from the ground, and then he was tackled from behind by the forgotten third attacker.

Feiln fell, and landed hard on the cold ground. The man or creature on his back was breathing heavily, he could feel the hot breath on his ear. Feiln kicked and squirmed but the attacker was too powerful, he was firmly pinned. The attacker lifted and arm to raise his dagger for the killing blow. With his now free hand Feiln grabbed the arrow he had dropped, in a last futile attempt thrust it backwards, just as the attacker stabbed down.

Feiln shut his eyes and waited for the burst of agony as the blade sliced through his neck. But it never came. Feiln rolled the attacker of his back, bewildered. He stood and looked down, then cringed in disgust. The arrow that he had lifted had somehow pierced the attacker’s throat. The attacker gurgled for a second than died. Feiln turned shocked. Then another shock, he saw the knight fighting desperately with a larger foe. He looked down and picked up his bow. The knight was in trouble, he had a gash on his arm. Feiln searched the ground for and arrow, he was beginning to panic now. There at last, he thought. Felin picked up the arrow; put it to his bow; drew the string tight; and released.

It was a good shot, straight through the heart. The huge fighter would have been hard to miss. But it was too late, the massive attacker had speared Jarred through the belly a second before. Feiln cursed and ran over.

He knelt next to the wounded knight. Tears welled in his eyes. ‘I have failed, I have failed.’ Jarred spoke.
‘What. What did you fail?’
A brief light shone in the grievously wounded man. ‘Listen, you must finish my task.’ He was wracked by a fit of coughing. ‘I was sent by Vinsen.’ Feiln nodded. ‘There are dark times approaching, I was sent to find an ancient text.’ He coughed again, this time blood slowly trickled from his mouth. ‘Find the Kraan text, Vinsen must see it… there is a hist…torian guild in Ten…’ His voice faded. Feiln wiped his eyes.

Feiln gathered his things. He picked up the knights bag and hefted it onto his back, along with his meager possessions. He bound the knights would. As he did so he noticed the emblem on his blue cloak, beneath it was written “Jarred” Feiln removed the cloak and wrapped up Jarred’ s sword in it, he fastened it to his back and vowed to return it to Jarred’s family. He was about to set off, when turned. He wrapped Jarred’s body in a blanket and buried him just outside the ruins. Feiln set off down the road to Tenell just as the sun was rising. He had no desire to spend any longer in those ruins. As he walked away the full impact of that night’s ordeal hit him, he silently wept. Suddenly he had got the feeling that he had been brought into something that was far too big for him to comprehend.
