Subject: The Emperor and his family were well pleased...
In reply to: A.r.d.i.n.n.i.a. 's message, "Mmmm hear this song and remember..." on 06:14:53 01/23/02 Wed

It was a fitting tribute the songstress mare A.r.d.i.n.n.i.a. had performed. ::clop, clop, clop:: The applause resounded throughout the hall. But not all Kymellians clapped this day, nor did they enjoy their feast. One beautiful mare sat by her father's side, barely touching her salad of grasses and oats.

"Daughter, why do you not smile? Why are you not happy like the others?"

J'Li smiled faintly, but the action reeked of effort. Kymellia was a paradise, and in many ways as beautiful to her as the images her smartship had shown her of the original world her people came from. That eden was lost to them in a vicious war against a reptillian race known as the Z'nrx. The Z'nrx, commonly called 'Snarks' by their prey, had all but decimated their people and ultimately, at their Queen's command, destroyed their world. Though the war was won, the cost was great. But that had been millenia ago. No one had seen or heard from the Z'nrx race since they were defeated and banished to the farthest reaches of space. And generation after generation of equestrian bipeds had eventually settled a second Kymellia, one whose beauty rivalled the original. Lush, verdant pastures and sparkling waterfalls were in abundance, and it hardly ever stormed. There were mild rains, and for those who preffered snow, there were regions to the north to accommodate them. J'Li should have been happy, but she was not. The Princess was bored. Kofi saddened to see her so; her mother had not survived the difficult childbirth, and Kofi bore a terrible secret. A genetic flaw in his bloodline that began twenty seven generations past might well be to blame. Though his daughter was a healthy Kymellian, he alone knew her blood was not pure. She suspected, and perhaps did not expect to live any longer than her mother had, but her real discomfort was her boredom.

Her Smartship November had told her a good many things, things the Kymellian scrolls did not contain, at least those accessible to the general populace. She knew of the Z'nrx wars, and of the powers her ancestors had. She knew her father's ancestor was a great friend to a quartet of strange pink bipeds who didn't even have a tail let alone soft fur! Pink, nearly hairless creatures with flat faces who had somehow gained the powers of one of them. And in time, the legendary quartet became the savior of their people. Such stories had since been ascribed to myths and legends, though it was not uncommon for Kymellians to honor this aspect of their history in one way or another. J'Li's own name was in homage to one of the four alien heroes.

"Please daughter, eat. Dance. Make merry."

Eat? Dance? Make merry? How could she when there was a whole universe of wonder beyond the confinement of her castle and her fields? How could she rest comfortably in such a sheltered existence? The pastures were wide and green, but surely somewhere, they must be wider and more green? Surely she, J'Li, was destined for some great role in her people's history, some grand adventure or escapade? She sighed, and began grazing to appease her sire...
