"Please Princess?"

The ship spoke to its single occupant in a serene, soothing synthesized voice. Though forbidden to leave Kymellia, the Princess J'Li did have limited flight priveleges withing the atmosphere of her world. yet on this day, like most others, she simply came to the hangar to be comforted by her Smartship, the closest thing she had to a mother.

November could not break her programming, could not grant J'Li her fondest wish. Yet at times the ship wondered if it possessed a heart, for it surely broke every time it met with J'Li's unrequited wanderlust.

"Dangerous outside Kymellia..." began November, noting how hollow her words were in both timbre and content. "Please Princess...let me fly you around the castle...you used to like that."

More hollow words. November too felt confined by such a limited radius of permitted flight. A 27th generation Smartship, she was capable of attaining speeds her prototypes could scarcely have calculated. To fly in circles, to fly in the same circles? November realized her spirit shared the same burden as her young charge. The Emperor had their best interests at heart, but was perhaps overcautious. The Z'nrx posed no threat and, in their isolation, the Kymellians had lost all contact with most other species, including humans. Knowing what she knew, November was greatly saddened by this last fact.

"Please Princess...I cannot self-activate; your father has locked out those functions for we Smartships. Every Emperor has after Friday broke her programming and..."

November stopped. The young princess curled up in the pilots seat continued to sob, and the smartship was only making it worse. She wanted to fly, even if it was around the castle, even if she couldn't grant J'Li's wish. But on this day as many others, J'Li would not take her vessel out of its hangar.

And so a healthy Smartship and a healthy young Kymellian simply sat and withered emotionally, dying a little more each day...
