"Down Cocking" is a term used by Moe Norman and what he is reffering to with this term is that when Moe first starts his downswing he cocks his wrist a little more than what he has in the backswing.

When I was instructed by my NG CI to stop my swing just after impact to me it was the same thing as doing a "punch shot".
