Subject: Hitting the ground before the ball

First of all, I have not been practicing the NG or IMA drills. I know I need too, but there's this fence, at the range, that's about 300 yards away that mocks me. Even so, I have seen some improvement because I've been to the range and course a little more often lately.

I do, however, have 2 problems that continue to show up "on occasion". I think I know the cause of the first one. The second one has me baffled, though.

1) I sometimes hit a pitiful low flying, short slice. I think it is because I'm opening my hips up before impact. As my hips open up, it pulls the club to the inside (I can't make up the distance by extending my arms, since they're already extended due to the SA setup) causing an out-to-in swing and glancing blow to the ball.

2) I sometimes hit the ground a few inches before I hit the ball. This one infuriates me! Of course, it always happens at the worst times too. I know you can't say for sure without seeing me swing, but does anyone have any theories on this problem or the first?

Thanks,
Phys Ed
