But shouldn't putting one's hands on his gun be in response to something other than the skin color of the individual?

I don't know if airline personnel are complaining. My point is that none of this makes me feel secure.

As for whether he was overreacting, neither of us was present. We don't know the details, and certainly we don't know the nuances. He felt like he was being treated like a criminal. If it happens to me, even as described, I know it's random and not based on who I am.

Your argument reminds me of people who used to say that black people shouldn't care about the "no niggers" signs because black people wouldn't want to support the business of a racist cracker anyway. While this may be true, there is something especially humiliating about being hassled because of your skin color.

And if I am searched, I won't complain. But if they put their hands on their guns, I won't complain there, but I will write a letter. Maybe it won't do any good, but if this sets a precedent for the way innocent citizens are going to be treated, the terrorists have already won.
