Thanks this helps! I do have a copy of the Q&A but I was confused by the very next entry which implies that squads can deviate from the original path of the movement phase, but I guess this is just referring to the movement bonus being lost. Seems to me that a leader might be aware of his troops distress and try to stick around to rally them...preferably without voluntarily breaking himself. It just seems inconsistent to me that the squad can deviate from the original path of the movement phase but the leader could not?

16.3 Assume a squad and leader move 6 hexes during the Movement Phase. During the Defensive Fire Phase, they are returned to the third hex of their path and fired upon resulting in the leader breaking. Is the squad still returned to its intended ending hex which costs 6 MFs ?
A. No - the squad could utilize only one more MF from the point where it was fired at, however due to its loss of MFs it need not move into the 4th hex of its earlier path if it chooses to take an alternate path.
