'Fifty. Can you believe it? Fifty weeks I've had a relationship with this column, which puts it about 6 months longer than any romantic relationship I've had, and it will go at least another two weeks.'
Hey-hey! Congratulations, Jal, on making it to the big half-century! And just to mark the occasion, we're going to have a bit of a special thing here in this non-anniversary UUT to the anniversary GBU (there haven't been fifty of these things)...just for those of you who have been wondering just what there's been over the past fifty columns.

But first, this week.

'Those who have provided inspiration, antagonisation and libation - Ratbat (goddess of HTML),'
Danke!

'GBU HQ is now up to it's fourth copy of this sophomore release from Dave "I used to sit behind Kurt" Grohl's band the Foo Fighters.'
There are times when sitting behind Kurt could have been really unhealthy.

Bugger! It's down! Bugger bugger bugger bugger bugger!! It sounds everso much fun.

'Happened to a Darwin man on Friday, thankfully the car was parked in his back yard at the time and he was inside, the RAAF is investigating how a dummy weapon managed to come lose from an F/A -18 Hornet during a training flight.'
A strangely appropriate location, 'cos but for the fact that the chap's still alive and it wasn't his fault, this would be a perfect Darwin Award story.
On the radio report I heard, this guy was apparently amazed to be alive. He was probably more amazed that he even had a reason to be amazed to be alive.
Yeesh, it fell off. Not a misfire, gang, where something already in motion headed to the wrong destination. It just plopped out of the sky onto some bloke's motor. Oy.

'We just wonder that if Howard believes so much in this then why hasn't he made a move to change adoption legislation that still allows for gay couples and single people to adopt?'
Look, experience has shown us that he plainly doesn't know anything about Australia, I doubt he's even aware of it. He probably assumes that because women can't vote, they're not allowed to adopt.

All right, now for the scary part. The summary of The Good, the Bad & the Ugly from 28 August 1999 to 6 August 2000.

Obviously, there's a positive view on the world, 'cos there were far more things rated as 'good' than 'bad' or 'ugly'. Because being depressing and gloomy might win you obscure literary prizes, but it also bogs down the mood. Er, which it would, really.

In fact, the first thing ever to be rated as 'good' was Some Kind of Love Song by Friendly. The first bad thing was the FBI, which sounds like a dangerous conclusion to come to - after all, they might use on you some of those military-issue smoke grenades like they did in Waco. The first ugly thing was Kate Langbroek's kerchief, which would mark the beginning of the column's regular attention to The Panel.

Over the last fifty weeks, Jared has let others into his chair from time to time. Graham has written a column, I have written two myself, and Jal's fellow Wilkins Mella popped up to sign off once.

Interestingly, Jal's reported on the music 50 times - which makes an average of one music report a week. You could even use it as a record-buying guide. Well, you can if you're Jared, especially. Which would make no sense, Jared would have heard them all already.

And speaking of entertainment, when Felicity was first mentioned way back in November last year, Jared was heard to comment that 'I haven't seen TV this bad since Charmed.' Guess some things get a second chance...

As for things that didn't get a second chance, Jared's quite rightly been making fun of John Howard more than he's talked about beer, but not by much. And let's face it, both of those things are kind of second nature for most people, right? Mind you, not so sure about talking about penii, which he's done more than either of those things.

Ah, the things you notice when you run a website...

Incidentally, the longest column ever was the end of 1999 special (the longest 'normal' one was #8). Oh, and the shortest was #2. There's no real amazing event that spurs that on, I just checked the file sizes, and thought you might be curious.

Anyway, there you have it, a brief retrospective from GBU Outpost R. It's been a fun fifty weeks - carry on Hellboy.
