He didn't buy that nonsense about being shook up, this was something more. This was something deeper, something worse. But now wasn't the time to press her on it, maybe in the morning... Maybe. Though it was possible that she would hightail it out of here before the right time came to allow him to press her on the subject. He just hoped that whatever it was, it wasn't the reason she looked the way she did.
Glancing up from his gathering of all the purse-y things, he frowned at her words. He heard the fear in her voice, the calculated apology in her wording. He was starting to get an idea of what it might be that she was running from. But there was no point getting himself all worked up when he didn't have a story to go with that idea. Instead, he handed her one of the card keys "I'll be in in a bit" He wanted a round in that shower. Especially if he was going to be camping out in his truck for the night, might as well be as comfortable as possible.
He watched as Kat hauled her bags inside, watched even as the door closed behind her and still sat there staring after the closed door. After a few minutes, he moved around to pull a pack of cigarettes out of the glove box. It wasn't all too often that he smoked anymore, but tonight seemed like the sort of situation that called for one. Lighting up, he pulled out a small flashlight and turned it to the pavement where her purse had spilt. He pocketed a lighter, a pack of gum, and an eyebrow pencil -or something that looked like one, it may well have been eye liner-
An empty pill bottle gave him pause, but the name on it wasn't Kats, so he dropped it back to the pavement. Finding nothing else that seemed like it would belong in a woman's bag, he hoisted himself up onto the hood of his truck and spent a few minutes finishing his cigarette, letting his brain roll over all the stuff he'd been trying to hold back. He let his memory drift back ten years, let them wash over him like a warm tide. By the time he'd finished wallowing in those old memories, the good and the bad, he'd gone through another three cigarettes and more than a bit of time had passed.
Sighing, he snuffed out his current cigarette butt and hopped off the truck hood. He took a moment to grab his duffle out of the back seat and lock the truck before heading into the hotel room. He gave a rap on the door before using the keycard to open it, knowing there was a small chance she was out in the main of the room and not fully decent yet. But there wasn't a sound beyond the shower running, so he let himself in. He dropped his duffle on the table, unzipping it ashe glanced towards the closed bathroom door "You still alive in there? Kat?"
