Jarek NOTHING HURTS LIKE YOUR MOUTHSo they would remain. For now at least, which meant Verda would be prepared to flee if they were threatened. From what he'd seen so far of this town and the surrounding wilderness this was a promising area, and it was likely that other wolves called this place home. Perhaps there were lost lambs to gather into their fold. The thought intrigued and bothered Jarek... If they did gather others in to themselves it would be likely that stronger wolves than he would join them, take precedence over him in Verda's eyes. Even now he meant little to her, he knew this and put away his erroneous thinking. He kept quiet as Verda spoke, looking to Cassidy briefly as she was reassured like a quivering pup, Jarek might have been annoyed by the coddling had he not been weaving his next words so carefully.
"There are others here...Surely they need a strong Alpha like you to lead them."
It was phrased as what could have sounded like flattery except that Jarek was not one for such trifle speech. He intended it just as it came, to admit that Verda was a powerful leader and it would be a simple undertaking for her to gather the strays in to herself. Why not begin anew? A new pack, one as powerful as before, prepared to face any of those straggling avengers of Leroy who dared to come looking. A curious but respectful gaze finally was offered to Verda, Jarek's words serious and genuine. When he meant business he meant it, no games were to be had.
She was already looking at him, he wondered briefly if she expected him to be jealous of the praise she had afforded Cassidy. He needed nothing of the sort, he was not as weak as his friend, and though he looked after Cassidy now and then he never cooed at her like a pup, it wasn't his way. Perhaps that made him seem like something of a prick, but the female hadn't ever seemed to mind his double bladed personality. |
