Verda went back to ignoring both her packmates, her subordinates, as was her custom. In the past she’d only addressed them when she needed or wanted something from them, or to interfere if she had to. She hadn’t rebuked his growl/whine combination, simply let him voice it, and let the moment pass. Jarek’s emotions were more volatile then she remembered, but perhaps that was because she hadn’t really ever had the occasion to pay such close attention to him. Rarely, in the past, were they alone together. For years she’d been surrounded by a number of her pack. And now there was only two. It saddened, and infuriated her. Leroy had taken her pride, her joy, and killed it, turned it rancid and poisoned the things which she held most dear. Her pack had been her family, and now it was down to the weakest members. Well, one of the weakest, and one in the middle of the pack hierarchy.
Jarek’s question pulled her attention back to him, and she tilted her head, letting her dark tresses fall over her shoulder, and ontop of Cassidy’s head. She studied the male silently for a moment, tasting the air around him, his mood. He’d calmed down and gotten himself under control. Good. “For now… Yes.” She answered after a moment of thought. She’d been here for a little while, and had heard nothing of her pursuers. Perhaps they hadn’t found her yet, or perhaps they were just biding their time, waiting for a weak chink in her armor… Well.. she was at her weakest now… Still they did not strike. Verda would remain here, let the rest of her loyal pack members find her, and then decide what to do. A hand went to Cassidy’s head, and hse gently pushed the younger woman away from her. “I’m pleased you’ve both found me.” She murmured softly, her gaze on Cassidy, staring at the younger fem until she glanced up and met her gaze. She offered a reassuring smile to the scared woman, and stroked her hair reassuringly. Her gaze went to Jarek, but she said nothing else. She was pleased with his confidence in himself, but to tell him such would just cause her more problems, so she kept her yap shut.
