A 44-year-old town man has been arrested and charged with the murder of a Kingston man in Carver in 2003, authorities said.

Darren Caswell, whose last known address was on Bedford Street in Middleboro, has been charged with one count of homicide in connection with the death of Matthew S. Cote, 26, said Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz.

Caswell was arrested Friday after a Plymouth County grand jury indicted him earlier in the day, Cruz said.

Caswell was scheduled to be arraigned in Plymouth County Superior Court in Brockton Monday morning, Cruz said.

Middleboro police Lt. David M. Mackiewicz said Caswell had worked as a corrections officer at a state facility in Bridgewater. Cruz said he did not have any details about Caswell’s background.

“Any and all information will be released at the arraignment,” Cruz said.

The arrest came after years of investigation into the death of Cote, of 17 Crescent St., Kingston.

His body was discovered about a quarter-mile off Tremont Street in Carver, on Aug. 17, 2003. The charred remains were found in the back of a pickup truck and identified by dental records.

It was determined that Cote died before the fire was set. First Assistant District Attorney Frank Middleton said at the time that Cote, formerly of Middleboro, died of multiple trauma.

Two years ago the case was featured on the national television program America’s Most Wanted.

Caswell was arrested by Mackiewicz, Detective Timothy G. Needham and state police detectives,
