AUCLAIR FUNERAL HOME William P. “Bill” Thran, 50, of Joseph Drive, Fall River, husband of Jacqueline (Melanson) Thran, died Wednesday, December 16, 2009.

A graduate of Bishop Connolly High School and University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth, he was employed by Alpert Brothers and for 25 years by the Massachusetts Department of Corrections at Bridgewater. He was an avid sports fan.

Besides his wife of 27 years, he leaves 2 sons, William C. Thran of Fall River and Timothy M. Thran of South Boston; 4 siblings, Norman Thran (wife late Janice) of Ohio, Mary Connell (husband James) of Tiverton, Kathleen Northrop (husband Steve) of Swansea and Ellen Shaw (husband Kenneth) of Carver; his mother-in-law, Mrs. Normand (Claire) Melanson of Fall River; sisters-in-law, Mrs. Jeffrey (Therese) Cabral of Fall River and Mrs. Thomas (Jeannine) Joseph of Little Compton; many nieces and nephews and several very close friends. He was the son of the late Norman and Elizabeth (Farren) Thran and the brother-in-law of the late Albert Melanson.

His funeral will be held Monday at 9:00 AM from the AUCLAIR FUNERAL HOME, 690 So. Main St., Fall River, with a funeral mass in Holy Name Church at 10:00 AM. Burial, St. Patrick Cemetery.

Visitation, Sunday 3:00 to 7:00 PM. LARGE PARKING AREA and BARRIER-FREE ENTRANCE at the rear of funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Jimmy Fund, 10 Brookline PL West, Brookline MA 02445 or Crusader Athletics Fund, Holy Cross College, 1 College St., Worcester MA 01610.
