Subject: Scully's lack of belief
In reply to: Islandgirl 's message, "Re: Fire" on 07:17:15 03/02/05 Wed

Scully being the doubter & Mulder being the believer was one of the show's main foundations. However, this did get annoying in later seasons when she was still doubting after Mulder had almost always seemed to be right. Maybe there wasn't proof but enough of what he said made sense & she should have come around (I guess she finally did in Biogenesis at the end of S6).

But in season 1 so far, I noticed 2 eps in which Scully was seriously starting to come around already. Beyond the Sea had Scully believing in Boggs' abilities when Mulder didn't. But at the end of the ep, she pulled back & rationalized it all. Then in Lazurus, she was in the same situation. Mulder sort of asked her why she couldn't make that leap & she replies "I'm afraid to."

Now Scully does conveniently lose consciousness (or is elsewhere) at times when something is seen by Mulder. But they should have moved her closer to Mulder's POV sooner than they did. I think it was Aqua Mala that really burned me, she was very annoyed at Mulder but when has he not been onto to something with his wild theories?

Plus, with the expection of the aliens, they have seen concrete evidence like artifical intelligence, soul transference, psycho-kenesis, ghosts, freaks of nature. If those can exist & Scully doesn't dismiss them, why be so against the other stuff? I guess CC & co. like the ying-yang M/S conversations but just because she believes him doesn't mean she simply agrees all the time.
