"It seems a little...I don't know, medieval. Don't you think, Mulder?" Scully asks. She looks over at the slide projector. "But then, you are into fantasy, aren't you?"
Mulder has the grace to appear embarrassed.

"Look Scully, we both know that at the heart of all myths, there is something real, a tangible SOMETHING that started the whole thing off," replied Mulder.

"Yeah, well, next thing you know we'll be running after nymphs and mermaids," smirked Scully. "Couldn't this just be as simple as a 12-year-old sociopath? He's gotten everything he's ever wanted and kills and cremates anyone who attempts to thwart him."

"I think we've got an X-files here, Scully. Let's go to San Diego and check out young Mr. Duchoverson."

When the agents arrive at the juvenile detention center where Sam Duchoverson is being held, they're led down a brightly lit hall with lime-green linoleum. A guard walks past holding a sullen, lank-haired youth by the elbow. The boy eyes Scully's 5-inch heels and works free an arm to hold his hand by this face, his thumb and little finger making the symbol of a phone.

"Call me, baby," he mouths to her. Scully rolls her eyes.

They're led into the small, bare room where Duchoverson is being held in order to talk with them. He is hunched over in his chair, his feet barely touching the floor. His greasy, black hair hangs in his eyes, and his once-manicured nails are now ragged and rimmed in black. He breathes through his mouth and has a pair of black-rimmed glasses held together with tape. When he looks up, they are both startled to see the brightly intelligent green eyes of a predator.

"I've been expecting you agents," he says in an unexpectedly deep voice.

Both agents remain standing. "We wanted to talk to you about your claim that 'Whizzarkon' killed your classmates. Why would your 'dragon' be the only whizzarkon that would kill when there have been other kids who have picked up the same collectable toy?" asked Mulder.

"What makes you believe their's are toys also?" asked the boy with some amusement in his voice. "Dragons are notoriously sluggish unless provoked. It could be those others are still in their first sleep."

"First sleep?" asks Scully. There is a clear note of scepticism in her voice.

"Dragons typically sleep for the first 100 years of their lives after being hatched," explained the boy. "They only wake and flash to full-size if something disrupts them...or their owner."

"And these boys *disrupted* you so they had to be killed?" asked Scully again.

"They broke the wyrm's casing," explained the boy patiently. "The slightest chill outside of the case is enough to cause a full awakening and dragons are not the best-tempered of beasts."

"Hmmm..." said Scully, looking over at Mulder. She was signalling with her eyes: "Fruitcake!"

The boy leaned forward. Neither of the agents noticed the flashing light in his eyes.

"I see you are skeptical," he said to Scully.

"I'm afraid I am," she replied. "Maybe you could arrange an -- what did you call it? An awakening."
