I was lucky enough to go on two school cruises with the Finnart JSS, Greenock. Not sure of which ship was which year. Worked on a Saturday in my local Auld’s the Bakers shop to help save up spending money for them. I’m not sure if I still have my log book. Both sailed from Greenock where we got the tender from Customhouse Quay out to the ship laying in the Clyde. The first cruise went to Norway, Sweden, Finland and Denmark. The second to Madeira, Lisbon, Tenerife and Casablanca. I have fond memories of meeting up with girls from a school in Paisley. I don’t remember much about the food we had but I certainly didn’t starve. We were all involved in arranging a musical concert. A couple of songs that come to mind were Food, Glorious Food and Consider Yourself (from Oliver! I think). I remember visiting the Vasa Viking ship museum in Sweden. It was a terrific and unforgettable experience for a wee lassie fae Greenock that’s lasted a lifetime.
