My parents sent my sister Cathy and I on a 2 week cruise on the Uganda. Fellow students Duncan McKechnie and American Ronald Murdoch also were on that cruise of the names I remember. I remember going to Santander, SP and Lisbon, POR. We probably stopped elsewhere, my memory is sketchy. Our minders were our science teacher Mr Mitchell and his wife. There were only 3 Americans from Dunoon Grammar that cruise and we gave our teacher no end of headaches, unfortunately, none of which here our fault directly. My sister and I held up the ship for hrs at one of the ports while our green cards were verified, a British official had stamped 2 weeks, instead of 2 yrs on them (We had been in Scotland for over 1 yr by then). Mr Mitchell was NOT happy. On another evening, I had my favorite drink before hitting my berth. 'Fresca' ('It's Frothy Man!' Remember the polar bear with sunglasses?) Later that night I was shaken awake by a few girls who asked me to move to another bunk, I did. About 10 minutes later, I was hauled to Mr Mitchell's 'office' and asked if I had been drinking in port that day. I said 'yes.' He asked 'what.' I said 'Fresca.' Then had to describe to him what that was as he thought it was some foreign alcoholic drink. Turns out the girl in the bunk I replaced had been drinking and had gotten very sick and was reported. My teacher never believed me and hated me after that. I remember vividly him yelling 'Bloody Yanks!' If you were from Dunoon and on that cruise I'd love to see pics and hear stories.
