We sailed from Dundee in the summer of 1972, I was 15 at the time. A handful of kids went from my school in Kirriemuir, it was barely a half hour drive in the car for our parents to take us there and wave us off. Other schools in Angus had lots more kids on board. Our bunks were below sea level and I recall we couldn't see anything through the murky water. We went to Copenhagen, Stockholm, Lubeck and Gdynia. Memories include shopping, Tivoli Gardens, visiting a Danish castle, and finding Poland very very depressing! Oh, and almost getting crushed in a German cathedral when over a thousand people tried to get out of the door at once...We had two teachers from our school. When we all went off to look around Stockholm, the woman teacher said we had to be back by a certain time. A couple of our girls got lost and were late, but the teacher decided in her wisdom to 'punish' them by not waiting for them, so they had to find their own way back and they were furious (not surprisingly.) The trip had its ups and downs, but it was a great experience and taught me a lot - especially geography!
