Hi, I went on an educational cruise on the SS Uganda in 1970, with Cowley Girls' School, from St. Helens in Merseyside.
We visited Madeira, Ponta Delgarda in the Azores, Morocco (Funchal at night) Casablanca through the day, and one other port, which escapes my memory just now! It WAS almost 39 years ago! The experience was wonderful, apart from the fact that I was sea-sick for almost the whole time. I was the first in the queue at the infirmary for sickness pills almost every morning. I do remember that when I felt well, I ate loads of Maltesers, so I couldn't have been that bad. As an all-girls school we were told to keep close together at all times when ashore, especially the 'larger' girls, as they were particularly attractive to any locals bent on kidnapping! Apparently the locals were also attracted to red hair, and since one girl in our party was a bit on the large side, and had red hair, we all kept a particularly close eye on her! I still have all of the photos and schoolwork from the cruise. It was definitely an experience never to be forgotten.
