I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO GO ON THE UGANDA AS A PUPIL OF PRIORY BOYS SECONDARY SCHOOL IN TAUNTON SOMERSET DURING NOVEMBER 1976
AT THAT AGE YOU DONT FULLY REALISE HOW LUCKY WE WERE TO HAVE SUCH A TRIP, I COULD NOT AFFORD ANYTHING LIKE IT TODAY, THINGS THAT STICK IN MY MIND EVEN TODAY WERE THE LEVELS OF POVERTY IN CAIRO, AND THE TUTANKAMUN EXEBITION THAT WAS ON IN THE CAIRO MUSEUM AT THE TIME.
I CANT REMEMBER ALL THE PLACES THAT WE WENT, AND I HAVE NO PHOTOS OF THE TRIP THEY HAVE ALL BEEN LOST OVER THE YEARS, YOU KNOW HOW IT IS.
MY GREATEST MEMORY WAS OF A GIRL I MET ON THE CRUISE, SHE WAS FROM WILTSHIRE, DOWNTON SECONDARY SCHOOL NEAR SALISBURY,I ALSO REMEMBER HER TWO MATES LINDA AND JULIE, I KEPT IN TOUCH WITH THE GIRL I MET AND EVENTUALLY MARRIED HER IN 1980 WE WERE TOGETHER FOR 24 YEARS MARRIED FOR 20 AND HAD TWO KIDS, NOW GROWN UP WITH KIDS OF THERE OWN, THATS A FEW OF MY MEMORIES OF THE UGANDA, AND YES I REMEMBER THE SEA SICKNESS I WAS NOT INVOLVED IT DOES NOT EFFECT ME BUT I REMEMBER PLENTY THAT IT DID, IT WAS THE CREW I FELT SORRY FOR THEY WERE RUNNING ALL OVER WITH MOPS AND BUCKETS. ALSO THE JUKE BOX APART FROM ROD STEWARTS SAILING, IT WAS THAT PAUL NICHOLAS SONG DANCING WITH THE CAPTAIN, AND MUSIC BY JOHN MILES, WHO REMEMBERS THE PLAYS I PLAYED THE PART OF A RICH ARAB BUYING WOMEN IN THE MARKET, THEY WOULD NOT LET ME TAKE ONE HOME THOUGH, OH WELL HAPPY DAYS.
