I was on the SS.Uganda 22 years ago. It's a happy memory that I have just rediscovered.I seen a small article in a book about the SS.Uganda and it all came back to me like a forgotten dream.
It was december 1980.My school 'Harmony Hill Primary School'all left from Belfast to the mainland to meet up with the ship. When I first seen it resting in the occean it is an image that is imprinted in my memory like an ageing photograph.
Once onboard this magnificent ship the memories are plentiful.I remember sleeping at night in our dorm which was on the sea level and being woking each night by the sea crashing against the sides of the ship.I also remember dancing to madness's 'Baggy Trousers'by the duke box.We all hated having to go to the classrooms for lessons.
We visited Athens,Israel,Malta,Rodes and several other Islands. We couldn't dock in a couple places because of severe storms so we were stuck at sea for about 3 days.I was sea sick and was made to eat dry bread.
The food was awful.Rumours were it was horse meat.
I think that the SS.Uganda was an experience that effected me more than I will ever know and as I look now at our class photo beside the magnificent funnel on board I know that it is something that will stay with me forever.
I would be so pleased if I could here from people who were effected by the SS.uganda as much as I was.

God rest the SS.Uganda.
