The date was October 1969. I remember it well, after 1 week at sea I broke my hip after slipping getting out of the swimming pool,(the 2 teachers I asked to help me dismissed my original cry for help as I thought that I had broken a leg, they got 2 pupils to carry me down to the hospital, indeed summoned two lads saying, Truscott, stupid boy thinks, he has broken his leg, he has only fallen down) a nurse called Veronica Venney looked after me like a brother. (As well a lovely young girl called Annete Forsdyke from Liskeard)
I got taken to a private British hospital in Lisbon on the Wednesday, and back to Falmouth on the Saturday, and then on to Truro Hospital. I got offered a flight home after my operation in Portugal, but the level of care and attention from nurse Venney was so good I was happy to stay on board. Indeed many passengers whom I never met kept sending me things in hospital. At least I enjoyed the first week.
Anyway it didn't put me of cruising, and still enjoy cruising to this day.
